Goal
The goal is for all Algebra 2 Honors students to use Texas Instrument graphing calculators to better understand the Algebra 2 material and score higher on the PSAT/SAT/ACT.
What will be done with my students
Graphing calculators will be used daily in higher order thinking problems regarding solving and graphing equations. Quadratics, linear, exponential and logarithmic graphs will be visible on the calculator. That takes learning to the next level!
The students will learn how to use the calculator to it's full potential.
Benefits to my students
The students will ALL be able to utilize an advanced scientific graphing calculator. Some students own their own, but having classroom sets will ensure that usage is more equitable. The calculators cost $100 each which is out of reach for many students.
Using calculators will increase PSAT/SAT/ACT scores.
The calculators will prepare them for college level mathematics courses that require them.
Describe the Students
The classes are heterogeneous with students with varying abilities from ESE students to gifted students.
The students are typically not freshmen but upperclassmen.
Approximately 1/3 of Seminole High students are economically disadvantaged.
