Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Helios Education Foundation - $1,000.00
Goal
The goal is to provide economic opportunities for under-served, and low-income status students to participate in theatre competitions. This is the most crucial element of inclusive interaction by those students experiencing actual and meaningful performance opportunities as well as understanding the rigors of competition, rehearsal and preparation in real time as well as benefitting from formal critiques and evaluation which aids in development and higher achievement in the arts.
What will be done with my students
With this funding, the students will be able to participate in various competitions at the district and state level. So, there is a preliminary period of preparation for either individual events or group events. It correlates with the curriculum because competing in Thespian competitions involves the totality of all specialty areas of theatre be it performance or technical fields, such as costume design, set design, publicity, etc. The preparation, rehearsal, and performance for such a competition is essential to real world experience beyond the theoretical aspect and provides absolute continuity to the standards as well meaningful collaboration with other students.
Benefits to my students
The expected outcomes are varied and exponential. The benefit to the student is tremendous. Many of the low income students would never have any opportunity to experience this without outside funding. This will be an entry level opportunity for them, which will lead to greater recruitment and involvement in the arts for students who generally have no way in. So, as a hook to get students involved it's greatly beneficial, and once they are hooked they generally encourage others to participate in the future. For the teachers of theatre, it's a tremendous recruiting tool, as well as an undeniable educational conduit to apply all the principles and skills taught in the classroom.
Describe the Students
Almost all of our theatre students are Title 1, low-income, minority majority students in an urban setting. They are reflective of our school demographic. There are a number of various ESE or other students with accommodations and IEP's. However, this school has always produced high quality theatrical productions and have excelled in attempting to be an ever-inclusive troupe that desires to expose students to the arts and theatre in particular as a way of giving the students ways of expressing their unique gifts and talents that otherwise would lay dormant and unexplored.
Budget Narrative
These funds will greatly expand opportunities for our under-privileged students to be able to participate in competitions and experience theatre; and discover and developed their untapped talent and potential. With the added benefit of growing our program and continue to offer it to this community.
