Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Helios Education Foundation - $1,000.00
Goal
The goal of this project is to help students make connections between visual art and other content areas by creating a mural that demonstrates the complete lifecycle of the butterfly. This mural will be painted at the entrance of our courtyard where we have already established a living and thriving butterfly garden through the ongoing care of our school Garden Club and Girl Scouts.
What will be done with my students
Students in grades K-5 will plan, analyze and create inspiration drawings during art class on the lifecycle of the butterfly. Students observe our very own butterfly garden in person and gather information on our long term investigation of this lifecycle.
Working with professional muralists Sarah and Cosby Hayes and myself, students will use their drawings to plan our final design to be painted on a large exterior wall adjacent to our butterfly garden. Size of the mural will be approximately 8x30 ft.
Small groups of students from each class will assist with the physical painting portion of the mural. This demonstrates how artists and designers collaborate and make an impact on our community. It will also provide an outlet to instill a sense of pride and accomplishment around our campus.
Benefits to my students

* Teaches students how to use innovative ideas and creative solutions to create a work of public art.

* Students learn to collaborate ideas and problem solve.
* Students practice using art tools, techniques and processes safely and responsibly.
*Students recognize, use and assess good craftsmanship on a completed work of art.
*Students take pride in the beautification of our campus while visually demonstrating the lifecycle of the butterfly.
