Goal

I hope to provide the ESOL students their own personal spelling dictionaries. These tools will help develop communication and comprehension skills of our students. 

 

What will be done with my students

This will provide my students with some structure as they develop their decoding and spelling skills.
Spelling facilitates communication. By following the same rules for spelling words, we can all understand the text we read. Spelling avoids confusion. If you write with intent and proper spelling, the receiver of that text will understand it. 

 

Benefits to my students

As the students utilize it will impact their reading skills.
Spelling and reading build and rely on the same mental representation of a word. Knowing the spelling of a word makes the representation of it sturdy and accessible for fluent reading. Especially in children, learning to spell helps your young one to become a better reader. Learning how to spell helps reading. This will be monitored throughout the year as the kids complete their diagnostics on FAST or Iready.

This is the total cost for 75 personal dictionaries for primary student (K-2) and intermediate students (3-5)
