Goal

Avid Strategies and Team work in Pre-algebra classroom. 

 

What will be done with my students

Mobile Whiteboards will be used in all my classes based on lesson plans (at least two days a week)where students will apply AVID strategies designed to engage students and build higher level thinking skills. These strategies will help close the opportunity gap by making learning accessible to all students by preparing them for college, careers and life. It will also provide me as a teacher the opportunity to monitor all students and focus on low level students.

Graph boards are a great way to increase student engagement in the math classroom. Next week, I will be starting a new unit introducing graphs, plotting points and finding the slopes with these mini white boards I will be able to keep students on task and monitor their work since they can all raise their boards at the same time to show me their work.

The laminator will be a great tool in my classroom to motivate students create their own posters for each unit that we will hang on the walls. It is also a great tool for review days where I plan motivating activities for students, laminating the activities and questions students work on will preserve items for years to come and save me time in the future. 

 

Benefits to my students

The tools I am asking for are for daily use. These tools will help support and motivate students' learning. Since I have many SE students these tools will be helpful with many ADHD students  

 

Describe the Students

40% students are ESE, other have a 504 plan and some are ELL. They are all low performers; most level 1 and few level 2. 

 

Budget Narrative

Total: $981.11. This includes the laminator machine, 24 pack dry erase whiteboards and 6 mobile whiteboards. These items will be used in all my classrooms and for many years. I am a new teacher (empty classroom), my students are very low and I am doing my best to motivate them into learning. I am hoping this scholarship will help me start building a classroom that motivates students not only to learn but also to succeed. These tools will be very helpful to implement AVID strategies in the classroom; these strategies/activities will help promote motion, communication, and team building.
