We would like to create a robust printmaking program at Hopkins to include screen printing, reduction printing, gelli mono prints, and collograph printmaking. We’ve been in contact with local artist, Mike Toth, and will be holding a student workshop on screen printing. Printmaking is a part of the course curriculum for our 4 VA1 courses, 4 VA2 courses, 2 2D3 courses, and 3 2D2 courses here at Hopkins. We are excited about the opportunity to provide a variety of printmaking tools that would allow the students the creative opportunity to expand their artistic skills. There appears to be a lack of printmaking represented in district exhibitions and we would like to elevate the medium for our students to help fill the gap.

Goal

What will be done with my students

Students will have the experience of planning, creating, and printing using supplies they otherwise would not be able to access. This is a great way to show students how to turn their passion for art into a career.  

 

Benefits to my students

If given the tools and materials, our students would surpass the expectation of at least one printmaking lesson and truly showcase the range of possibilities. With the experimentation and creative process of printmaking I know that our students could create beautiful work that would enhance our district art shows.  

 

Describe the Students

John Hopkins is a Title 1 school with free breakfast and lunch for all students. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and live all over Pinellas county. Out of the 132 students on my roster, I have 18 students with 504 plans, 71 students with IEP plans for both gifted and learning disabilities, and 3 students that receive support as English Language Learners. 

 

Budget Narrative

These budgeted items would provide supplies for mono printing, screen printing, and reduction printing experiences for my students. It would be a great opportunity for our art students to expand their skills and hopefully represent a different medium in a high quality way in district contests.
