Goal

To provide incentives for students when they meet their reading goals. To provide incentives to encourage students to read and help teachers promote reading in their classrooms. Last year students read a combined 280,000 minutes on myOn. This year we have a goal of 500,000 minutes read. This year we will be adding Beanstalk as another reading tracking program so we want to bump up our reading minutes goal to include both myOn (ebook) and physical book reading.

What will be done with my students

Throughout the school year, we will be doing school-wide myOn, Beanstack, and SLAM reading challenges to promote a love for reading. Weekly and Monthly, we will be having reading challenges to see how many students are independently reading and tracking their reading minutes. These incentives will help encourage students to focus during their independent reading time. We will be announcing weekly and monthly winners on the morning show that earn their reading prizes.  

 

Benefits to my students

This grant will benefit all 600 pre-K through 5th grade students. This grant will help teachers promote and incentivize reading in their classrooms as well as in the media center. This program will help our students build their independent reading stamina.  

 

Budget Narrative

These items are all for our reading incentive program. I would like to help encourage students to become excited about reading by giving weekly prizes and rewards. The $342 will buy 25 different items to give out to our students so they will continue to be excited about reading all year long!
