Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Science will come alive to this and future groups of kindergarten students. By incorporating a hands on science center, students will rotate through in small groups, practicing what was taught in whole group. This grant will enable my class to take science from just hearing about it in books to doing it, both inside the classroom and allow us to explore and learn science outside as well.

Goal

Science will come alive to this and future groups of kindergarten students. By incorporating a hands on science center, students will rotate through in small groups, practicing what was taught in whole group. This grant will enable my class to take science from just hearing about it in books to doing it, both inside the classroom and allow us to explore and learn science outside as well.

What will be done with my students

This project will get science into the hands of young students. According to a study, kinesthetic learners make up almost 45% of the population. This grant would allow students to practice and experiment with the science curriculum objectives they have heard about in a book.
It should also be noted that studies have shown that students retain about 75% of what they have learned through practice and 90% when they can teach others. By learning the science objective in whole group, then practicing in small groups, students will also have the opportunity to teach classmates, thus retaining the information past kindergarten.

Benefits to my students

One outcome will be that students will stay curious and strive to become a live long learner of science.
The second outcome will be that students will increase their science knowledge; demonstrated on our end of unit assessments provided by the district.

Budget Narrative

These purchased books will allow students to see and reread the science concepts easier than if the science books were only on Myon. The experiment kits would allow science to come alive and give students the chance to not only hear about science, but see it in action as well as collaborate on projects. These items, with the exception of live larvae, will be used this year as well as future years in my classroom.
