Goal

This funding would allow me to provide my AP Biology students with more resources. This would let them be exposed to lab activities to benefit their understanding of AP Biology. These resources would give them a more concrete understanding of the subject matter. The lab activities would provide them with a deeper understanding of all of the components of Biology that we cover in this course.

What will be done with my students

By having more lab activities and resources will give students more exposure to using different types of equipment.

Having more opportunities to be exposed to more lab activities will allow them to further understand lab processes and complete experiments that are referenced on their AP Biology exam.

Overall, this project will foster engagement in Biology and reinforce concepts we learn.

The compilation of lab activities I hope to use this school year fully cover the investigative practices that are covered in AP Biology.

Completing this variety of lab activities will give student the ability to better understand important biological concepts as well as the scientific evidence that supports these concepts. They will be able to gain this further by having the chance to engage in these lab activities.

Because these activities help to develop their conceptual understanding of biology, scientific reasoning, and quantitative skills, I am confident this give my students a greater chance of better understanding the course material. 

 

Benefits to my students

I expect to see improved engagement by being able to interact with the subject matter through a hands-on approach. Many scientific concepts can be very abstract, so engagement is not always an easy thing to achieve.

If students are given more opportunities to design and carry out an experiment, this will result in allowing them to be better at conducting statistical analysis of data, in forming scientific hypotheses, through designing experiments, supporting scientific claims with experimental data and to make connections among biological processes.

This will give all AP Biology students an increased chance of scoring higher on their AP exams, thus giving them the ability to earn college credit while still at high school.

This can motivate them to continue to pursue STEM options and guide them toward a career in STEM. 

 

Budget Narrative

The laboratory materials would be purchased from Wards Science and Flinn Scientific. There is no charge for shipping and handling from either Wards Science or Flinn Scientific.
