Goal
I am an occupational therapist who services exceptional students (ESE) daily in modified curriculum classrooms. I work on hand strengthening and fine motor coordination through play to assist students to require less assistance in everyday activities of daily living and functional tasks. My students in the modified curriculum level 1 would benefit from durable and quality material to work on their strength and coordination in their daily center rotations. Manipulating small pieces, constructing designs, and using both hands to push pieces together all contribute to dexterity and hand-eye coordination. These are vital skills that students need both in and out of the classroom. Using these quality materials, students will engage and participate in hands-on activities that will help build bilateral coordination, midline awareness, and opposition.
Category
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
What will be done with my students
The exceptional students will use various materials and toys to work on building strength and coordination in their hands which is necessary for everyday tasks they complete at school. These new materials and toys will be engaging and help keep the student’s attention for longer periods of time.
Benefits to my students
Working on fine motor coordination, bilateral coordination, and hand-eye coordination is vital for our exceptional students to gain more independence in their activities of daily living. These activities promote cognitive skills such as problem-solving, spatial awareness, and creative thinking, laying a strong foundation for future academic success of these students with learning difficulties.
Budget Narrative
The 470$ will be used to purchase durable FM activities and manipulatives that can be used with the exceptional students during occupational therapy and during center rotations in the classroom. Because the items are durable they can be used for many years to come. This will cover the cost of the manipulates, taxes and shipping.
