Goal

My project goal is for my students to improve their speech, language, and overall communication skills. By improving these skills, my students with speech and language impairments will increase their articulation, vocabulary, comprehension, and receptive/expressive language skills in order to be effective communicators in the school setting. I work with students with speech and language impairments through weekly therapy services. My students' difficulty with these important areas impact their ability to effectively communicate with peers and adults as well as access their curriculum.

What will be done with my students

This project benefits students as it provides a fun and interactive way for students to improve their speech and language skills. The therapy tool targets multiple language areas, including: comparing and contrasting, answering wh-comprehension questions, categories, associations, functions, and multiple meaning words. All of these concepts are important skillsets necessary for reading comprehension and other academic areas. In addition, students with speech impairments need to be able to produce sounds correctly in order to be understood when speaking, sound out words accurately when reading, and spell words correctly when writing. This product targets the productions of various speech sounds so that students will improve their articulation skills. The project will benefit students' ability to meet their oral language goals and objectives as stated on their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). In addition, this tool will be able to be used repeatedly with students every year when they attend speech/language therapy sessions. 

 

Benefits to my students

This tool will provide engaging and hands on learning opportunities to increase my students’ speech, language, and overall communication skills for multiple students and for years to come! This engaging set will allow a caseload of 50+ speech and language impaired students to meet their individualized and specific communication goals as documented on their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
