I am always looking for innovative ways to get my students excited and curious about science. With materials such as owl pellets, rocks, minerals, 3-D models, and digital microscopes my students will be given the opportunity to participate in hands-on science activities, building a greater enthusiasm for learning science. With these materials, students will engage independently and in groups, with hands-on learning experiences that build a deep understanding of scientific concepts.

Goal

I am always looking for innovative ways to get my students excited and curious about science. With materials such as owl pellets, rocks, minerals, 3-D models, and digital microscopes my students will be given the opportunity to participate in hands-on science activities, building a greater enthusiasm for learning science. With these materials, students will engage independently and in groups, with hands-on learning experiences that build a deep understanding of scientific concepts.

What will be done with my students

My goal is to provide my students with hands-on learning experiences in every science unit this year. This will allow students to engage in science by using real world application. In doing this, students can make more connections, creating more success with fourth grade science content.

All of the fourth grade students will have the opportunity to use a digital microscope and an LED hand lens as well as other tools to explore different topics in science. To enhance their lessons, students will have the opportunity to dissect owl pellets to learn about food chains, build a butterfly garden to learn about metamorphosis, and test out mystery minerals using their properties.

Students will work both independently and with their peers through the use of hands-on science materials, making it a lifelong learning experience.  

 

Benefits to my students

Engagement increases when students use hands-on activities in science. It provides them with an immersive learning experience that actively builds their science knowledge.
