Investor
Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Hillsborough Education Foundation - $1,200.00
Goal
The goal of this project is to allow 5th graders to actively explore the physical properties of different rocks and minerals which supports the 4th grade Earth Science standards they will be tested on this year.
In 5th grade, students are tested on all Science standards from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. The Diamond Del bus gives students a fun way to bring the rock and mineral standards to the front of their brains and review the materials they will be tested on during the FAST Science at the end of the year.
Category
School-Wide, Grade-Level, Or Class Events/Programs - Parent Nights, Honor Roll Celebrations, EOY Events, etc.
What will be done with my students
The Diamond Del’s Gem Mining field trip will provide students the opportunity to observe, identify, and describe the properties of various rocks and minerals through hands-on exploration. In the spring, just before testing, each student will classify and explore the unique features of gems they find while mining.
Benefits to my students
The expected outcome for the field trip is for students to review content knowledge of the Earth Science standards through hands-on experience making observation, identification, and classification of various types of rocks and minerals. It is my hope that, at least, 60% of the students that did not show mastery of the rock and mineral standards on the baseline (beginning of the year assessment) are able to show mastery on the FAST Science test at the end of the year.
