Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

By introducing engaging and developmentally appropriate manipulatives, our goal is to enhance the mathematical learning experience for young learners. These hands-on materials will not only support the mastery of foundational math concepts but also foster a positive attitude towards learning, laying a solid foundation for future academic success.

How Project Benefits Students
By achieving this goal, we aspire to create an enriched learning environment where Kindergarten students develop a solid mathematical and science foundation, setting the stage for continued success in their academic journey. This goal is measurable through informative, state testing, and formative assessment

What will be done with my students

Math manipulatives are instrumental in providing tangible and interactive learning experiences for Kindergarten students. Research indicates that hands-on activities significantly contribute to a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts at this crucial stage of development. With the incorporation of manipulatives, we aim to make abstract mathematical ideas more concrete, ensuring that each student can grasp fundamental principles in an enjoyable and effective manner.

Benefits to my students

Increased Conceptual Understanding: Students will develop a stronger conceptual understanding of mathematical principles, including numeracy, counting, basic operations, and spatial reasoning.

Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills: The use of manipulatives will promote critical thinking and problem-solving abilities among Kindergarten students, encouraging them to explore, experiment, and find solutions collaboratively.

Improved Engagement and Enthusiasm: Interactive and hands-on activities will spark curiosity and enthusiasm for mathematics, creating a positive attitude towards learning that extends beyond the Kindergarten years.

The grant will be used to purchase math manipulatives for Kindergarten students to improve their understanding of foundational math concepts, such as number sense, counting, addition, subtraction, and spatial reasoning. By incorporating these hands-on tools into daily lessons, we anticipate the following measurable outcomes:

1. Improved Test Scores:
We expect a 20% improvement in students' math test scores over the academic year. This will be measured by administering both pre- and post-tests at the beginning and end of the academic year, focusing on key concepts such as number recognition, simple operations, and pattern recognition. For example, if the average baseline score is 60%, we expect this to increase to 80% by the end of the year.

2. Increased Engagement and Participation:
We anticipate that 90% of students will demonstrate increased participation and engagement during math lessons, as measured by teacher observations and classroom participation tracking. Engagement will be monitored by recording the number of times students actively use the manipulatives during lessons and small group activities.

3. Higher Math Proficiency Levels:
We aim for 85% of Kindergarten students to reach proficiency in key math skills by the end of the year, compared to 65% at the start of the school year. Proficiency will be measured using a standards-based assessment aligned with state math benchmarks.

Measurement Plan:

- Pre- and Post-Testing:
We will conduct a pre-test at the beginning of the year to assess baseline math skills. A post-test will be administered at the end of the year to measure the impact of the manipulatives on student performance. The tests will include questions aligned with the curriculum to evaluate growth in areas such as number operations, pattern recognition, and problem-solving.

- Ongoing Progress Monitoring:
We will track student progress through formative assessments, quizzes, and teacher observations throughout the year. This data will be analyzed quarterly to ensure that students are on track to meet the expected outcomes.

- Teacher Observations and Feedback:
Teachers will document the frequency and quality of student engagement with the manipulatives during lessons. These observations will serve as qualitative data to complement the quantitative test scores.

By providing students with hands-on tools to visualize and manipulate mathematical concepts, the grant will help increase math proficiency, improve test scores, and boost overall student engagement in math activities.
