Goal

Prepare Bay Crest 3rd graders with the tools to compete and be successful in Hillsborough County's Science Olympics. Third graders will be creating Wind Racers by going through the engineering design process. The top finalists at Bay Crest will compete with other third graders. This is an amazing opportunity for students to develop their STEM skills and feel what it is like to be a professional in the field.

What will be done with my students

This project will benefit students by providing each third-grade class with a standard box fan that will be used in the Science Olympics judging. To give Bay Crest third graders a fair shot in competing, we need the same materials to test our wind racer prototypes as the other competing schools. Without these fans, our third graders will arrive to the Science Olympics without a true test of their Wind Racers which could come as a disadvantage since they do not know how they will behave with the judging criteria.  

 

Benefits to my students

Third graders at Bay Crest will compete in the Science Olympics Hillsborough County competition and take home a medal for their school. With the proper materials, students will be able to fully go through the engineering process and have a fair shot at winning.
This is an annual project so the fans will be used repeatedly by future students.
