Thank you to the following investors for funding this grant.
DUKE Energy - $146.00
Anonymous Family Foundation - $729.70
Goal
Hydroponic plants are a great example to show students how the reaction of chemicals can affect the environment. Hydroponic plants are a technique that relies on solutions rich in minerals rather than using plant soil. Hydroponic systems involve certain nutrients such as magnesium, calcium, and sulfur. By introducing these solutions to the students, they get a basic understanding of the different properties of elements on the periodic table and a growing foundation in the scientific method.

What will be done with my students
• SC.912.N.1.2
Describe and explain what characterizes science and its methods.
• SC.912.N.1.1
Define a problem based on a specific body of knowledge, for
example: biology, chemistry, physics, and earth/space science
• SC.912.N.2.2
Identify which questions can be answered through science and
which questions are outside the boundaries of scientific
investigation, such as questions addressed by other ways of
knowing, such as art, philosophy, and religion
Benefits to my students
Students will have a more complex understanding of the steps of the scientific method and be introduced to how common elements when combined effect the environment.
Budget Narrative
I am requesting one hydroponics kit for each of my class sections.
