Investor
Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Hillsborough Education Foundation - $800.96
Goal
The goal of my project is for the 5th graders at Bellamy Elementary to show mastery and growth on life science standard SC.5.L.14.1. This standard addresses the major organs in the human body and their functions. Mastery will be measured by looking at the data/ scores on a beginning of the school year test as compared to the end of year test focusing on this standard.
Category
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
What will be done with my students
Students will be provided a prescreened apron with body organs to color one at a time as we take a journey through the human body. The apron project provides a creative and fun way for students to demonstrate their knowledge of the digestive system including organs and functions along with their location in the body. The project is completed in class and then be worn to keep clean during science class labs. The students will also be responsible to wear their aprons and visit other 5th grade classrooms to help teach, review, enrich, and reinforce learning in our school community. The students in my class will keep their own aprons at the end of the school year, but the 3D models will be used by different classes each year in the Science Lab.
Benefits to my students
Bellamy 5th graders will increase their knowledge of the human body and their organ functions to show mastery, 70% or higher, on a post measure assessment on standard SC.5.L.14.1 – Identify the organs
in the human body and describe
their functions, including the
skin, brain, heart, lungs,
stomach, liver, intestines,
pancreas, muscles and skeleton,
reproductive organs, kidneys,
bladder, and sensory organs. A premeasure of the standard shows Bellamy scored 13% mastery in September before instruction was given. I believe with the activity of the apron and with the 3D human bodies in hands, this goal is attainable!
