Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

My goal is to have my 5th graders reading grade level books for fun and to have them take AR tests at school in order to help the community. I also wish for my students to enjoy reading and to understand that sometimes we read for pleasure and not just for testing. I believe that if kids are enjoying what they're doing, they're learning as well.

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

What will be done with my students

My plan for my students is to have them read the book and write a book review. They will also create an advertisement/ movie poster to go along with the book. They can read with a friend or read alone, but the goal is to encourage other students to read the book based on their recommendations. I would like to begin book reviews in November. It will be an ongoing project so there is no specific timeline.

Benefits to my students

I believe the students will benefit in many ways. Reading for fun and allowing the students to share their opinions and personal thoughts, about the books, is a confidence booster.

The written reviews will also benefit their writing skills. They will have to state their opinions and support their opinion with evidence from the text. Which is what we work on in class for the state writing test.

I also plan on incorporating our ELL students by having them read and write a book review in Spanish for our non-English speaking students.

I truly believe that this project will benefit more than my 40 students. I believe this could impact readers school wide.

Budget Narrative

I priced the books on Amazon, rounded up and then multiplied the cost by 2 in order to have 2 copies of each book.
