Goal

My goal is to expose all of my students to many kinds of paints and painting techniques so that they can make informed decisions when determining what/how they will use paint in works of art.

What will be done with my students

Using various projects for different grade levels, I will teach my students how to use and choose from different kinds of paint and techniques to complete a work of art. This will be an ongoing process throughout the school year. In all grade levels, there are standards tied to the selection and proper use of materials in works of art. The items purchased with this grant will address and enforce those standards. In addition to the types/uses for paint, I will teach them the proper care for the paint and brushes that will be used. In order for their artwork to dry properly, I am also asking for a drying rack that will accommodate papers up to 12 x 18, including smaller sizes that won't fall through the shelves. Students will also be taught how to use the rack to store their wet artwork so it can dry properly and not stick to other pieces of art. 

 

Benefits to my students

This will benefit my students by strengthen their abilities as artists to make correct choices regarding media when producing a work of art. It will also teach them the proper handling and care of the media and tools. These skills will assist my students in becoming more successful and confident artists. The students will be able to rely upon their own knowledge of paint/techniques/clean up/storage of wet artwork to make them more autonomous in the art room. Having different kinds of paints and brushes will enable students to experience painting/techniques that start with beginner skills and lead them through to more expert media/techniques. Though the painting supplies are disposable, I am ordering enough supplies so that all my students will be exposed to each kind of paint/technique. In some instances, I'm asking for multiples of the same item so there will be one per art table in my room - I have 8 tables. My intention is that there be enough supplies to reach into the next school year. This grant will impact 550 students this school year (2024 - 2025) and will continue to impact students (approx. 550) for the following school year. The paint brushes will last 3 years (approx. 550 students per year) with the proper care students will be taught. The drying rack will be used for 10+ years (approx. 550 students per year). Paint may need to be replaced for next school year, depending on how long they last. Paper will last for this school year only.
