Goal
The Bionic Broncos, the F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Club from Palm Beach Central have just completed their rookie season and are looking to further develop the team’s infrastructure in order to become more competitive and attract more students on campus to be a part of the robotics team in our second year. We are requesting funding for our team to buy tools, equipment, and have the opportunity to travel and compete as a team this upcoming season. Support of our club offers many benefits to the community.
What will be done with my students
Students on the robotics team will build their second robot this upcoming year. We work year round in learning, developing, and creating robots and other STEM related projects. This past year our rookie team built their first robot in just six weeks on only an $1800 budget, meeting Monday through Friday 3pm – 5pm during that time span; in addition to weekly meetings year round. The students competed this past year in a competition that had 47 teams and many from all over the country and some teams from Brazil, Colombia, and the Netherlands. This year the team is striving to enter two tournaments and create a more advanced robot by meeting throughout the summer and fall and hosting expert mentors to help our students create. The students will learn valuable skills in STEM related fields throughout the year. Finally, the team would like to compete in not only a local tournament, but also travel to compete in a non-local tournament.
Benefits to my students
The Bionic Broncos hope to inspire and instill knowledge and skills to students in topics including; but not limited to: technology, various artistic and engineering designs, public speaking, leadership, business, coaching, communication skills, fundraising, marketing, science, math, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, and aerodynamics. If we are able to meet our budget needs and have the much needed commercial tools, robot parts, and other supplies, then our team in their second year will gain even more valuable experiences and interactions not only with one another in the creativity process, but also learn much more from the vast experience of local mentors, engineers, and computer programmers who so generously give their time to be guest instructors and mentors. They will also experience more diverse interactions with others by traveling and interacting with teams from all over the world.
Budget Narrative
The Bionic Broncos team does not receive any funding from the school or the school district. Last year the students were able to raise money needed through off-campus candy sales and soliciting donations from local companies in exchange for advertising at tournaments we competed in and advertising on our campus. Fundraising is one of our biggest challenges as a team.
