Goal
Our goal is to meet my students individual needs in a structured environment that incorporates direct instruction curriculum, vocational and life skills.
What will be done with my students
Students will have the opportunity to choose between 3 choices of what to cook per week. They will utilize our CBI buses to purchase the needed items and they will help to prep the food and eat the final product.
Benefits to my students
It is well known that children learn better when exposed to real life scenarios and have the opportunity to practice those skills. This project will allow my students to gain valuable real-world experience. During our cooking lessons students will learn math when measuring, counting paying for the cooking items. They will learn science by observing changes in matter or improving their life skills when in the community. They will learn Language Arts by acquiring new vocabulary and its meaning. All my students are non verbal so voice output devices(VOD) and picture symbols will be used to help them improve their communication skills.
My student's cognitive abilities affect them to reside in a general education classroom therefore this is much more than a cooking lesson, this is a life time opportunity for them to learn all the required skills in a environment where they will feel safe and comfortable.
Budget Narrative
All purchased items will be used to help students on their cooking projects.
