Goal
The focus of the program is vocational and independent living instruction and experience. The goal is to provide greater finanacial literacy experience for the low functioning ESE adults through exposure and hands on experience in the work and community environments--to connect work behaviors to financial reward and experiences.
What will be done with my students
The students will work at their practice job sites and "earn" a "paycheck". Students will "cash" their checks and "deposit" the payment into the bank, which is run by higher functioning students within the class. Students, with support, will maintain their bank balances. "Withdrawals" would come in the form of $5.00 debit cards, to be used for specific planned functions that the students plan on a monthly basis. The students would practice independent living activities, using the cards, to make independent selections and purchases, with support. Students would subtract withdrawals and add paycheck deposits and maintain their bank book, showing current balances.
Benefits to my students
The students will receive greater exposure to financial literacy aspects at their own level of understanding.
Students will learn that when they work, that there is a financial reward, a payment, for hard work and effort, which leads to a greater work ethic. They will also gain greater financial literacy exposure through planned and generated activities, such as visiting banking sites. They will also develop a relationship with the Broward Schools Credit Union/School Board representative--she will do presentations and supply materials to be used for instruction and practice.
Budget Narrative
Gift cards would be purchased for preferred sites, to include retail and food purchases. Travel Training would require bus passes to be purchased for training and practice.
