Goal
i would like to provide new technology to our kindergarten classes called a Q-ball. Its is throwable microphone ball which engages the students in sharing their thinking and involves all students in listening, speaking and learning.
Category
Electronics - Personal computers/tablets/iPads, headphones, charging cables, computer mice, etc.
What will be done with my students
In at raining, we learned a technique called "shared inquiry." It involves reading a rich text passage to students and asking them to provide answers to higher-level thinking questions. The students toss the microphone to each other and speak into the ball for an engaging exchange. Speaking and listening are 21-century skills all students need to have to thrive in the real world and workplace. My students often need to present their thinking in all academic areas. They share the written drafts of "stories", science findings and math thinking.
Benefits to my students
The ball provides tactile technology to hear all students and provides excitement in speaking and listening. This will help students be engaged in the language arts standards of reading, speaking and listening. it will also help English Language learners and hesitant learners to feel empowered to speak. Everyone wants a turn to catch the ball and share! This grant will provide two balls to share amongst 6 teachers.
Budget Narrative
The balls will be shared amongst my team of six classes and will be a great addition to our language arts , math and science programs and help facilitate shared inquiry and math concept sharing.
