Goal
The staff of Azalea Middle School are humbly requesting funds to continue to operate our Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS) school store, which is known at our school as the "Black Knight Chivalry" (BKC) Store.
What will be done with my students
Throughout each day and all classes at Azalea Middle, students that are exhibiting our three guidelines for success: respect, responsibility, and safety, can earn PBIS Reward points (school currency). These points can then be used in our PBIS School store for a variety of fun items! The school store is offered two times a week all school year long at all three lunches (for all three-grade levels) and students can purchase one item each visit. Last school year (2022-2023), we had over 5,350 student customers visit our store!
Benefits to my students
Our PBIS initiatives here at Azalea Middle School, continue to motivate students to abide by our guidelines for success, monitor their own behaviors, show effort and dedication in their classes, as well as reward extremely deserving students that are consistently responsible, respectful, and safe. The expected outcomes overall would be that students' grades, attendance, and academic achievement level would increase, while negative referrals and behaviors would decrease.
Describe the Students
We are a Title I school (78%+ free/reduced lunch) and the largest zoned middle school in Pinellas County. Currently, we have a total of 736 students on our school roster. Furthermore, we have an ESE population of 136 students. 50% of our school population has had low test scores and over 30% of our students have accrued high absences. The racial demographics of our students are as follows:
American Indian: 1 student (0.10%)
Asian: 14 students (1.9%)
Black: 360 students (48.9%)
Hispanic: 124 students (16.8%)
Hawaiian/PI: 2 students (0.30%)
Multiracial: 22 students (3.0%)
White: 213 students (28.9%)
Budget Narrative
The staff of Azalea Middle School are asking for $3,000.00 to supply and maintain our PBIS school store throughout the 2023-2024 school year (students use school currency/PBIS Rewards points to attend this school store). Our school store acts as an extrinsic motivator to encourage our students to attend school daily, to engage in learning and tasks, and to monitor their own behavior; as well display our school's guidelines for success: respect, responsibility, and safety.
