Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

My goal is to obtain funding that could be put directly towards creating a safe space for scholars to receive mental health support, participate in counseling groups addressing grief, trauma, foster care, anger management, social skills and more.
With an increase in mental health concern across the world today, creating this safe space to promote this support in a healthy and inviting way will allow for scholars to receive these resources while shifting the stigma around accessing mental health resources.

Goal

What will be done with my students

We will use this space to provide individual, group and crisis counseling, social skills lessons, redirection and calm down space, social/emotional learning hub to learn coping skills to use across campus and outside of school. These are crucial skills that can be generalized into the community.

Benefits to my students

Our hope is to provide a space for scholars to utilize to learn and practice coping skills, use the space to regulate their emotions and to receive mental health support. In addition, we hope to teach de-escalation skills and proactive skills for early intervention techniques.

Describe the Students

Our students come from a diverse, high trauma environment. Out students often face issues of abuse/neglect, poverty/homelessness, parental incarceration, death of family members, gun/gang violence, exposure to drugs/alcohol and many more adverse childhood experiences. We are one of the "Fab Five" schools in PCS and have always needed more support and resources. We are not just a school in a neighborhood, we're a neighborhood school.

Budget Narrative

We would love to be considered to benefit from this grant opportunity to be able to create a safe, welcoming space equipped with materials and curriculum to teach our scholars social/emotional learning techniques, skills, and strategies to apply at school and outside of school.
