Goal
The goal of this project is to expose all scholars, K-5 in our school to a makerspace. A makerspace allows scholars a different learning environment and can allow those who have been struggling to thrive in this setting due to the openness of the activities and the creativity that is allowed.
What will be done with my students
Every week, each class in our school will visit our makerspace which will be located in our media center. I want all students to have access to a wide variety of materials so they can build, create, and innovate.
Benefits to my students
A makerspace fosters innovation through a hands-on learning approach. The space is inviting and encourages scholars to take initiative to create. Makerspaces provide an opportunity for students to utilize hands-on, personalized learning to develop STEM entrepreneurial skills. These skillsets provide valuable opportunities to excel in the future.
Describe the Students
We currently have about 400 scholars at Lealman Avenue Elementary. Our school is very diverse, and we have children from very low socio-economic families. We have ESE students, gifted students and general education students on all levels.
