Goal

To provide a calm and comfortable environment for students to improve communication and positive interaction skills. Also, to implement a more substantive & purposeful PBIS system and store

What will be done with my students

Building upon the success of a recent mini-grant, I will purchase more bean bag/soft chairs, mini zen gardens, and mini-white boards/dry erase markers. I will also purchase UNO cards, Connect 4, and other games for 1-1- or small group play. While students use these tools we will talk and explore how they can improve adults/peer communication, how to handle their emotions, set goals, and overcome internal barriers. Various items such as stickers, tracking charts, ink pads/stamps, stress balls will be purchased as incentives and to be redeemed in my newly launched PBIS store.

Benefits to my students

Students will have a calm, comfortable environment (The Behavior Specialist's) to talk either 1-1 with the Behavior Specialist or in a small peer group. Various tactile and multi-sensory activities and items will be available, as well as different incentive items. The ultimate benefits are that students will reduce anxiety, stress, negative communication and increase positive emotional regulation, positive communication with peer sand adults, and ultimately improve their performance at school.

Describe the Students

This will benefit all student groups at TSMS. There are ESE students as well as GenEd student who ask to talk with me and seek a quiet space to work or to just 'detox' from whatever stressors they are experiencing.
