Goal
My goal is to create engaging, multisensory phonics centers for all 10 kindergarten classrooms in my school.
What will be done with my students
The students will be working in pairs at the phonics centers. They will build decodable words or sight words using the alphabet ink stamps or the alphabet dough stampers. Once they have built their words, they will practice reading the words to their partner.
Benefits to my students
This is a unique multisensory activity to help students practice encoding and decoding words on their phonics level. These centers help students practice a pinching grasp when picking up the small stamps. This benefits students who are still working on a pencil grip or have occupational therapy needs. These centers also benefit our students with sensory needs as they practice using the appropriate pressure when pushing down on the stamps. Please help us create a FUN way to build and read words in kindergarten.
Budget Narrative
Item 1 or "Educational Insights Lowercase Alphabet Stamps" can be found on the School Specialty website for around $27.29 for a single set. We have 10 kindergarten classrooms. I rounded this item to $30.00 per set. This would be a total of $300 for Item 1. Item 2 or "Colorations Lowercase Dough Stampers" can be found on Amazon for $38.99 for a single set. We would need 10 sets of this. I rounded this item to $40 per set. This would be a total of $400 for Item 2. The entire grant total is $700.
