Goal
The goal of this grant will be to stock our two new Chemistry labs and new Forensic Science lab with the glassware needed to perform laboratory experiments. We are currently sharing equipment with other labs and need our own set of equipment to be fully functioning.
What will be done with my students
Students in Chemistry, Forensic Science and AP Chemistry need to perform laboratory experiments to better understand concepts taught in lecture. With only limited equipment, it means students must work in larger groups and miss hands on experience and learning because of the lack of glassware. Each class currently has 13 lab stations but only enough glassware to use at less than half of them.
Benefits to my students
Students will benefit from having the proper amount of glassware to perform experiments in smaller groups where they will have the hands on time they need to develop their scientific skills. Hands on learning reinforces lessons, helps them problem solve and enhances their learning experience. Performing experiments in class also increases their enjoyment of the subject. Students enjoy laboratory days where they can use what they have learned and carry out experiments themselves.
Budget Narrative
The above equipment pricing is from Thomas Scientific.
