Goal
My goal is to foster affection for story, for literature, for curiosity, for learning, for growing, for school as a whole, and for these students' potential as a whole.
Three our of B.E.S.T. ELA state standards address reading specifically: reading prose and poetry, reading informational texts, and reading across genres.

What will be done with my students
By building a robust, age-appropriate library, these texts will offer opportunities for readers of all ability and interest to place in their hands something of worth and value in order for that student to feel honored and seen, focusing on graphic novels for our ELL students, verse novels for lower lexile, children's classic to create cultural literacy, as well as interest novels for students to feel seen and valued.
Benefits to my students
My independent reading time, which will utilize these selections, will not only benefit their academic pursuits, but from a statistical standpoint, there has been nothing as highly effective as accountable independent reading for the quantitive growth of students, yet even more will offer opportunities to build cultural literacy, thus encouraging this next generation to become more savvy citizens, engaged citizens, fruitful citizens.
