What will be done with my students
We are going to do an all collaboration in celebration of Surrealism. They will contribute an exquisite corpse drawing of either a HEAD, MIDDLE, or LEGS on a cardboard cube.
“Exquisite Corpse”– A game in which each participant takes turns writing or drawing on a sheet of paper, folding it to conceal their contribution, and then passing it to the next player for a further contribution. During the 1920s when it was adopted as a technique by artists of the Surrealist movement to generate collaborative compositions.
“Surrealism”– Surrealism is a cultural movement that developed in Europe in the aftermath of World War I in which artists depicted unnerving, illogical scenes and developed techniques to allow the unconscious mind to express itself. The surrealists created this game to create images that were “unimaginable by one brain alone.” - quote attributed to Surrealist poet Simone Kahn in this article:
Benefits to my students
Art installations are a Form of Communication. Art projects come and go. Art installations are here to stay. They are a legacy, a means for students, staff, and stakeholders to communicate from generation to generation. Art installations are an artistic dialogue serving to provoke and inspire present and future student populations. AND “EXQUISITE CORPSE” IS DOWN RIGHT FUN.
Just envision students and staff enjoying these sculptures in the most unexpected place!
