What will be done with my students

Our students at Progress Village, Title 1 school, are passionate about learning and have shown interest in the historical and civic aspects of their education. Visiting Washington, D.C. would provide them with an invaluable opportunity to experience firsthand the landmarks and institutions that they have studied in the classroom. Key highlights of the trip would include visits to the Smithsonian Museums, Gallaudet University-devoted to disabled students, historical monuments, and Arlington National Cemetery.

Benefits to my students

This trip aims to:

1.Deepen students’ understanding of American history and government.
2. Inspire civic engagement and responsibility.
3. Provide a memorable and educational experience that will enrich their academic journey.

Budget Narrative

However, many of our students come from families with limited financial resources, and we are seeking scholarship funding to ensure that interested students can participate, regardless of their economic background. The total cost per student for the trip is $1,600 which covers transportation, lodging, accommodations, meals, insurance, and entry fees to various sites.

In conjunction with our fundraising efforts, the Hillsborough Education Foundation grant would reduce expenses for 8 students by providing an estimate of $250 per student.
Student selection will be based on essay contest
theme " How does history connect to me"

Contestants will write a 4-paragraph essay to include introduction/2 supporting examples/conclusion by January 17th.
Eight scholarships of $250 will be awarded to contestant winners. Funds will be allocated to their travel account with WorldStrides travel agency. We will measure by comparing/tracking quarterly social studies/reading grades and academics of contestants for 1st and 2nd quarter.

The grant would not only make this trip possible but also leave a lasting impact on our students’ educational and personal growth.

Thank you for considering our request. We are hopeful that you will join us in making this enriching educational experience a reality for our students.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Elise Senter-Odom
