What will be done with my students

Our IBI-2 students go on field trips, typically on Friday mornings, to further develop their social/life skills in the Naples community. Our students have made trips in the past to such places as the Naples Therapeutic Riding Center, the Naples Zoo, the Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium, and Freedom Waters boating excursions. During the 2024-25 school year we plan on making trips to the Coastland Mall one Friday a month for lunch and shopping.

In addition, we are requesting funding for snack items like microwavable popcorn, Cheez-It's, peanut butter crackers, pretzels, chips, fruit snacks, and bottled water. These are used as rewards for positive behaviors, and as treats for our daily snack time.

Benefits to my students

Further developing our students social/life skills will only assist them whenever they go out into the world more often as they become older. Being in the community, learning how to perform tasks like ordering food at a restaurant or shopping at a clothing store, developing appropriate public social skills, properly engaging with store and mall employees, will only enhance their current abilities, and help them develop more confidence in themselves when they are outside their typical comfort zone. Many of our students do not get the opportunity to go out frequently to develop these vital life skills.

The funding for snack items for our classroom will be used as rewards for such items as student token boards or following classroom rules. Students might receive a favorite treat for engaging in positive behaviors within the classroom, or simply treating their teachers and classmates nicely with respect.

Budget Narrative

The money for the field trips will be used to provide a monthly lunch at Coastland Mall for 11 IBI-2 students. Estimate based on 11 students, $10 per lunch, for the remaining eight months of school. 11 x 10 x 8 = $880

For snack items, we would spend approximately $50 a month over the remaining eight months of school. 50 x 8 = $400.

Our total requested amount for our project is $1280.
