Goal
Help students work in a conducive space to learning, in which they are provided with all the materials they need to succeed. After three years as an Academic Coach, I am going back into the classroom. Over the past few years, I have given away all of my existing classroom supplies to new teachers. As I reenter the classroom almost completely empty handed, I also venture into the world of Elementary for the first time. My goal is to rebuild my classroom tailored to my new elementary demographic.
Category
School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.
What will be done with my students
The materials will aid in creating a safe and creative space for learning the 4th grade ELA BEST Benchmarks specifically in reading and writing. These benchmarks include-
ELA.4.R.1.1: Explain how setting, events, conflict, and character development contribute to the plot in a literary text.
ELA.4.R.1.2: Explain a stated or implied theme and how it develops, using details, in a literary text.
ELA.4.R.1.3: Identify the narrator’s point of view and explain the difference between a narrator’s point of view and character perspective in a literary text.
ELA.4.R.1.4: Explain how rhyme and structure create meaning in a poem.
ELA.4.R.2.1: Explain how text features contribute to the meaning and identify the text structures of problem/solution, sequence, and description in texts.
ELA.4.R.2.2: Explain how relevant details support the central idea, implied or explicit.
ELA.4.R.2.3: Explain an author’s perspective toward a topic in an informational text.
ELA.4.R.2.4: Explain an author’s claim and the reasons and evidence used to support the claim.
ELA.4.R.3.1: Explain how figurative language contributes to meaning in text(s).
ELA.4.R.3.2: Summarize a text to enhance comprehension.
ELA.4.R.3.3: Compare and contrast accounts of the same event using primary and/or secondary sources.
ELA.4.C.1.3: Write to make a claim supporting a perspective with logical reasons, using evidence from multiple sources, elaboration, and an organizational structure with transitions.
ELA.4.C.1.4: Write expository texts about a topic, using multiple sources, elaboration, and an organizational structure with transitions.
Benefits to my students
The majority of materials listed are intended to benefit students in small group work and collaborative work as well as day to day activities. By allowing students to work collaboratively, students lean into inquiry based learning, step up as leaders within their learning and are quicker to take accountability within their learning. By providing a comfortable and engaging environment where all students needs are met, students are more likely to feel safe in their learning and take educational risks.
Budget Narrative
Cleaning and sanitary supplies will help create a safe and comfortable environment for students to work in close proximity of one another. Classroom sets of glue, scissors, crayons, etc. will ensure collaborative groups are always engaged with the materials they need to explore their learning. Tools such as reading phones, line readers, table dots and magnetic notebook paper will aid small group intervention in creating a safe learning environment to take educational risks. Classroom furniture & organizational systems will aid students and the teacher in creating an efficient environment for learning, transitions and lesson prep. Rolling stools & stackable stools will create a flexible environment when morphing into small groups and collaborative groups, ensuring we are never without space or seating. Stickers and the fidget box will help put in place Postive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) for students and reward benchmark proficiency.
