My goal is to enhance the mathematical understanding and skills of our 5th grade students by utilizing the Generation Genius Math Program.

What will be done with my students

The Generation Genius program will be utilized in a number of ways within the three fifth grade classes. Students will use it as an introduction into new mathematical concepts. The concepts will be introduced in a fun and engaging manner, by familiar and friendly faces of the Generation Genius.

In addition, Generation Genius Math will also be used to help reinforce learned content consistent with the Florida Standards. These standards include MA.5.DP.1.2: interpret numerical data; MA.5.GR.1.1: classify triangles or quadrilaterals; and MA.5.GR.3.3: solve real-world problems involving the volume.

The videos provided on Generation Genius aim to engage student learning by utilizing peers of the same age solving and using the mathematical concepts to solve real world problems. The Generation Genius program also has games and puzzles for the students to solve in addition to the introductory videos. These are great resources for students who complete tasks early, or to help students who may need extra individualized assistance in understanding the concepts.
 

 

Benefits to my students

Generation Genius has the ability to provide our 5th grade students with engaging and differentiated instruction for a multitude of learning styles and abilities. This will no doubt help enhance the engagement and enjoyment of mathematics for the entire fifth grade as well as expose the students to different teaching styles to learned or difficult concepts.
