Goal

G.E.M.S. (Girls Empowered and Motivated in School) is a mentoring program for elementary girls in 5th grade. Our vision is to help girls learn how to use their voice to grow and develop in their leadership, learn tools and techniques to navigate their emotions and help them know they are not alone.

What will be done with my students

GEMS has wrap around support for our girls provided through guidance counselors, teachers, therapists and administrators. Safe and trusted women mentoring in GEMS help foster relationships and school connectedness, so the girls know we are about them, their well-being and their success. This program provides learning opportunities through presentations, field trips and mentorship.  

 

Benefits to my students

The girls will learn about topics such as healthy bodies, healthy friendships and leadership. Our hope is that the girls enter middle school with sense of self worth and confidence to succeed academically and behaviorally.
The CDC recently released a report on the record high levels of depression, anxiety, violence and suicide risk in girls. The report raises an urgency to invest in schools as a vital lifeline to help our girls. There is a call on us to act with urgency AND compassion. Please support our Miles GEMS!
