Goal

This grant proposal seeks to obtain funding for flexible seating, carpet purchases, and improved lighting to create a more engaging, comfortable, and focused learning environment for high school math students at Palmetto Ridge High School. The enhancements will cater to all students, with a particular focus on supporting those with ADHD and focus issues by providing an adaptable and stimulating classroom setting.

Project Goals:

Enhance Student Engagement: Implement flexible seating options to encourage active participation and collaboration among students.
Promote Comfort: Use carpets and rugs to create a welcoming and warm atmosphere that reduces noise and makes students feel at ease.
Improve Focus: Upgrade lighting to create a well-lit, visually appealing environment that reduces eye strain and enhances concentration.
Support Students with ADHD and Focus Issues: Provide specific seating solutions that allow for movement and flexibility to help students maintain focus and improve their academic performance.

What will be done with my students

Flexible Seating:
Purchase a variety of seating options, including yoga balls, standing desks, wobble stools, and cushioned floor seating.
Designate specific areas for group work, individual study, and relaxation to cater to different learning styles and needs.
Ensure that some seating options are specifically tailored for students with ADHD to promote movement while maintaining focus.

Carpet Purchases:
Install area rugs and carpets to reduce noise levels, create a more comfortable atmosphere, and define different learning zones within the classroom.
Choose materials that are easy to clean and maintain, ensuring a hygienic environment.

Lighting Improvements:
Replace harsh fluorescent lights with adjustable LED lighting that can be tailored to different activities and times of day.
Introduce floor lamps and desk lamps to provide softer, more focused lighting options. 

 

Benefits to my students

The traditional classroom setup often fails to meet the diverse needs of students, particularly those with ADHD and focus issues. Research has shown that flexible seating, appropriate lighting, and a comfortable environment can significantly enhance student engagement, comfort, and focus. By redesigning our classroom, we aim to create a space where all students can thrive, particularly those who require additional support to stay focused.

By obtaining this grant, we aim to transform our high school math classroom into a dynamic and supportive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of all students. The flexible seating, carpeting, and improved lighting will not only enhance student engagement and comfort but also provide essential support for students with ADHD and focus issues.
