Goal
The mission of the fishing rod building club is to give students an opportunity to explore a trade or hobby and empower them to teach others.
As part of our clubs, there is always a giveback project and ours will be to donate a rod that we have built to the Take a Solider Fishing tournament that is held annually.

What will be done with my students
As a Lighthouse School, we give students the opportunity to meet with a club to work on something they are passionate about. Each year, I try and think of unique opportunities to learn about a life skill or trade that they can consider as a future career. We started this club last year and as word spread it became very popular. At the end of the semester each student in the club went home with a fishing rod that they built. The picture attached is a student who was in the club last semester with two awesome catches and his custom built rod.
Benefits to my students
Living on Marco Island, this is a recreational activity more students should have the opportunity to participate in. Students will learn life skills of using a cast net to catch bait, fishing with the rod they built, and how to research the rules and laws of fishing in the state of Florida.
Budget Narrative
The budget above covers the cost of materials needed for each child in the club to build their own fishing rod.
