Goal
The goal of this grant is to provide one copy of each of the Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Junior books to the five Kindergarten classrooms for this school year.

What will be done with my students
The SSYRA Junior program is a statewide voluntary program that allows students to read the books nominated for the award in order to vote for their favorite book. Students in kindergarten will have all of the Sunshine State Jr books read to them either by the classroom teacher or the media specialist. When five books are read, students will be eligible to vote for their favorite book. In April, after voting is complete, students will learn which book was the school-wide favorite, and which book was the statewide favorite. It is a wonderful way to promote reading!
Benefits to my students
Reading is fundamental to every student! Independently reading books helps to further a student's comprehension and vocabulary. Reading is also the stepping stone to success in every subject, helping to increase knowledge and understanding across the curriculum. The SSYRA Junior program provides students with types of books to students that they might not normally read, opening their eyes to different genres that they could possibly love. By allowing classroom access to these books, students will be provided the ability to re-read the stories and use the strategies learned in class to further develop reading skills.
