Goal
As a dedicated math educator at Heritage Middle School, I am committed to providing my students with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world. I am seeking funding to equip my Algebra I Honors classroom with individual digital writing tablets. These devices will enhance student engagement, foster interactive learning, and allow for personalized instruction, ultimately improving student outcomes in mathematics.
Category
Electronics - Personal computers/tablets/iPads, headphones, charging cables, computer mice, etc.
What will be done with my students
To achieve the objectives aligned with the Florida B.E.S.T. standards, the following grant activities will be implemented:
Activity 1: Solving Linear Equations
Students will use the tablets to solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, aligning with MA.912.AR.1.2. The digital tablet will allow students to manipulate equations, try different solving techniques, and receive instant feedback, helping them to understand the underlying principles of algebraic manipulation.
Activity 2: Factoring Polynomials
Using the tablets, students will practice factoring polynomials as outlined in MA.912.AR.3.2. The tablets will provide an interactive format for students to experiment with different factoring techniques, see the immediate results of their work, and collaborate with peers on challenging problems.
Benefits to my students
Algebra I Honors students often encounter challenges in understanding abstract concepts and require significant practice with immediate feedback. Traditional methods, while effective, have limitations in providing the dynamic interaction that students need. Additionally, students may struggle with organizing their work and tracking their progress effectively. This will also reduce waste of dry erase markers that run out of ink quickly, or pencil and paper methods.
Digital writing tablets offer a modern solution by enabling students to write and solve problems on a digital surface, allowing for easy corrections and instant feedback. This technology also aligns with the broader push toward digital literacy, preparing students for future academic and professional environments.
Budget Narrative
The total cost for the project is estimated at $985.42. The budget will cover the following:
Digital Writing Tablets:
I plan to purchase 58 digital writing tablets at a cost of $16.99 each, totaling $985.42. These tablets will be used by students for daily mathematics instruction, allowing for interactive problem-solving, note-taking, and participation in practice exercises that align with the Florida B.E.S.T. standards.
There is no software needed for the tablets, and I will explain the correct usage and care for the tablets to the students.
This request is asking for a class set of 30 tablets and 28 additional tablets for back-up in case of breakage and/or usual wear and tear to the devices over time.
By funding this project, you will be investing in a transformative approach to Algebra I Honors education that leverages technology to improve student outcomes. The use of digital writing tablets will not only enhance learning in the classroom but also prepare students for a future where digital literacy is essential.
I am confident that with your support, we can make a significant impact on the academic success of our students. Thank you for considering this proposal.
