Goal

The goal of this request is to provide the students at Golden Gate Elementary with the opportunity to create three-dimensional works of art. With these materials students will be able to craft with their hands and take a piece of artwork home that could last a lifetime.

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to shape and manipulate materials using their bare hands like they have never done before. Clay will be used in each grade level. Kindergarten down to creating small necklace sized Mandalas, clay as the base, toothpicks for designs and to hold the clay in place. Older grade levels will be able to dive deeper with clay making coil or pinch pots and even small sculptures. The two carts will help so much with loading the kiln and passing out clay and keeping clay tools in one spot available to pass out with a student helper. Clay kiln pegs will help students out who accidentally paint on the bottom of their project, the pegs help the clay not stick to the kiln. Clay tools and sponges will be used when working with clay that can be fired, these tools are safer for elementary kids than real clay tools. Pegboard and shelving will allow my school to store clay in the room with the kiln to dry out the clay and create more room for storage.

Benefits to my students

Today’s world is very demanding and lacks patience these projects will open the eyes of students showing them the basics on how things were made by hand before technology. These tools will give my students an easier time to work with clay while having the tools that are appropriate for elementary use. The storage materials will be easy for my students to use to pass out supplies and give students the opportunity to lead. Using these materials such as clay give my students a chance to dive into skills they can take home and use almost every day!

Budget Narrative

Listed are tools that can help my students develop hand-I skills for later on in their lifetime. Clay will be used to create three-dimensional art works the students can take home and keep forever. Storage and carts will be used for clay room and easier access to 3D works.
