Goal

Density is one of the fundamental physical properties of any substance. Understanding what it is and how it’s calculated is crucial in virtually every scientific field. My goal is to provide every student at Oakridge Middle School an opportunity to engage in a hand-on learning experience that will enable them to build a solid foundation and true understanding of this important concept.

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc. 

 

What will be done with my students

I will set up the Density Flow Model Tank for class demonstrations and my students will complete lab activities that support various learning goals in the Earth Science Curriculum. 

 

Benefits to my students

The Density Flow Original Model will challenge our students to use scientific inquiry techniques to explore geology, meteorology, freshwater and saltwater systems as well as plate tectonics, seafloor spreading, layers of the atmosphere, air masses, fronts, air pressure, winds, ocean currents, thermoclines, upwelling, El Nino and more!

This product can be used year after year, and I will be sure to share the model with other science teachers at Oakridge Middle School so every student has the opportunity to learn this very important concept.  

 

Budget Narrative

The money will be used to purchase the Density Flow Original Model from Flinn Scientific.
