Goal

Our lower school science lab is filled with fun and creative STEM projects on a daily basis. Our students love to create and build to show their creativity and learning potential. The goal for this grant is to provide students with access to 3D printing technology in order to develop their practical design and life skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, innovation, and perseverance.

What will be done with my students

A 3D printer in the school’s science classroom will allow students to create physical models of more complex concepts. This in turn will help them better understand and visualize projects that may seem out of reach. For example, instead of using clay to model an animal and its habitat by hand, a student could design and print a model of their animal to enhance their presentation. 3D printing being a newer and exciting technology will also promote student engagement in my classroom. 

 

Benefits to my students

Having a 3D printer readily available for my students increases their interest and engagement across the curriculum. It will also add value to our STEM activities by stimulating curiosity and imagination. At our school, we pride ourselves in encouraging explorations, experimentation, and innovations. A 3D printer will help manifest these traits. Students will be able to provide practical applications for mathematics, science, computing, and design technology. In addition, we would use 3D printing as an enrichment activity within the classroom. Our students would learn how to use basic programming skills by using basic commands in a script to help them create their prototype. 3D printing also promotes real world understanding by enabling students to create their own models or prototypes for their STEM projects.
