Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Educational Pathways Academy works with students who have learning disabilities, primarily dyslexia. We know that dyslexia also comes with incredible abilities in conceptualizing and art. Our students really know how to think outside the box!

My goal as an art teacher is to lead students through projects that celebrate their unique talents and strengths, which helps build confidence and provides an outlet during their academic day. With new technologies, I am excited about leading students through projects that encourage them to transform a 2D image into a 3D form.

Goal

Educational Pathways Academy works with students who have learning disabilities, primarily dyslexia. We know that dyslexia also comes with incredible abilities in conceptualizing and art. Our students really know how to think outside the box!

My goal as an art teacher is to lead students through projects that celebrate their unique talents and strengths, which helps build confidence and provides an outlet during their academic day. With new technologies, I am excited about leading students through projects that encourage them to transform a 2D image into a 3D form.

What will be done with my students

I am requesting funding for a 3D printer that will allow each student to fully realize an inspiring new approach to perspective. With the ability to teach this abstract concept to completion, I am also teaching the students to think critically, use their imagination, and make predictions. Having a 3D printer will produce a finished product that students can hold and feel.

My students will learn the basics of design as applied in three dimensions. Students will examine line, plane, volume, texture, and scale by working through a series of art projects that will be manipulated through several technical and conceptual approaches.

Benefits to my students

With enhanced technology available to my students, they will be able to expand their knowledge and perspective on their class projects. As a teacher, I see their strengths, and this tool will provide a resource to my students that directly ties into a dyslexic child's exceptional abilities in visualizing and perspective. My students will benefit from an element of curriculum that affirms their talents and will encourage further exploration into an area of strength. I will facilitate an environment that fosters curiosity, and a safe place to discuss a concept and all of the outcomes. This will help my students build confidence as thinkers and artists, and will build conversation and reasoning skills as they interact with me and one another on the exciting possibilities of bringing their artwork into a 3D realm.

Budget Narrative

This grant proposal will be used to purchase a 3D printer that will be used in lessons with all of my students. Additionally, students enrolled in our summer programs will also benefit from the integration of this technology.
