What will be done with my students

1. Students will read about different animals during ELA.
2. They will write about their opinion on their favorite animal.
3. They will work with their classmates to develop questions about the Florida Black Bear.
4. They will participate in the Virtual Zoocon and record answers to different questions about the Florida Black Bear as part of the first grade curriculum.
5. In science they will learn about the five senses and how we use them to investigate the world.

Benefits to my students

This field trip will allow for our first graders to apply the standards learned in science and reading to the real world. Throughout the year they will learn how to ask questions about the world around them. They will learn how to investigate their questions, how to document observations and record answers, helping them grow their informative writing skills. Our students will benefit from this experience as many of them do not have the opportunity to visit various places outside of Immokalee. This will also give them a field trip experience in first grade that has not been possible for the last two years and be able to make a connection between ZooCon and the black bear at the Naples Zoo.
