Goal

My goal is to enhance the development and well-being of special needs students by providing a diverse selection of educational and sensory toys, which will support their cognitive, emotional, and physical growth in a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Category

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

What will be done with my students

Sensory and educational toys will be used to provide tailored sensory experiences that cater to the individual needs of each student. I plan to use these toys to promote regulation, stimulation, engagement, social interaction, and individualized learning opportunities for my students.

Benefits to my students

Sensory toys like stress balls, fidget spinners, or soft, textured objects can help students self-regulate by providing calming input, which can reduce anxiety and stress and improve focus and attention. For students who are under responsive to sensory input, vibrating toys, brightly colored objects, or toys that make sounds can help awaken their senses, making them more alert and engaged.

Playing with putty, building blocks, or bead threading sets can help students develop fine motor skills, which are essential for tasks like writing, buttoning clothes, or using utensils. Larger sensory toys, like balance boards or textured stepping stones, can help improve balance, coordination, and other gross motor skills.

Toys that produce visual or auditory effects can be used to foster shared experiences, which are important for developing social bonds and communication skills in our classroom community. Squeezing a stress ball or playing with kinetic sand can help students express feelings of frustration or anxiety in a non-verbal way. Sensory toys can also be comforting, helping my students feel secure and emotionally connected.

Students will benefit from toys that require manipulation like puzzles or shape sorters because they enhance cognitive skills such as problem-solving, spatial awareness, and cause-and-effect understanding.

Overall, sensory toys are an effective tool for supporting the diverse and unique needs of my students, helping them thrive in educational and social environments.
