Goal

Each student needs readers that meet their particular instructional level. This allows for differentiated instruction tailored to their needs. The students will be able to practice specific strategies like predicting, questioning, summarizing and making connections.

What will be done with my students

The guided readers will allow me to work with small groups of students in my class on targeted skills, allowing for more personalized instruction and immediate feedback. In one class period I will be able to work with a group of students on a text from start to finish. In conjunction with whole class novel studies, smaller guided readers will provide me more opportunities to meet individual student reading needs. 

 

Benefits to my students

When using leveled guided readers students will achieve/receive:
-better fluency
-better support for students below grade level
-stronger independent reading skills
-individualized instruction
-assistance developing comprehension strategies
-introduced to new vocabulary that is targeted towards each students reading level
-exposure to a variety of genres
-develop stronger critical thinking skills
-builds confidence as a reader

 

 

Budget Narrative

Each of the guided reading sets includes 10 different readers (6 copies of each reader). The levels vary in fourth grade, so it is important to provide for all the students levels. With a limited budget any additional resources for reading would be extremely helpful. Each reader set comes with online resources as well as a lesson folder. These resources will be used by several grade levels in my school since reading levels often overlap with other grades. These resources are not disposable so any or all of the requested reading levels would positively impact students every year.
