Goal

The primary goal of this grant is to enhance the scientific literacy and investigative skills of our students by providing them with hands-on, inquiry-based science kits. These kits are specifically designed to align with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and will enable students to explore complex scientific concepts through experiments, observations, and data analysis. By integrating these kits into our extended science classes, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of science, stimulate curiosity, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students.

What will be done with my students

Students will use the science kits to conduct a variety of experiments that cover key scientific topics such as forces and motion, weather and climate, magnetic interactions, and the survival of organisms in various habitats. Students will work in groups to investigate scientific phenomena, gather and analyze data, and present their findings. For grade 3, students will use kits designed to help them make inquiries, conduct investigations, and relate their findings to real-world scenarios. Each lesson will involve planning, conducting experiments, analyzing results, and drawing conclusions, all while adhering to safety guidelines provided in the kits. 

 

Benefits to my students

These science kits will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in scientific exploration. They will benefit from engaging with the material in a way that traditional classroom instruction often cannot provide. By participating in these activities, students will:

- Develop a stronger grasp of scientific concepts through practical application.
- Improve their ability to think critically and solve problems.
- Gain experience in conducting investigations, analyzing data, and communicating their findings.
- Increase their enthusiasm and curiosity for science, which can lead to a lifelong interest in STEM fields.
- Collaborate with peers, enhancing their teamwork and communication skills.

Overall, these kits will create a more dynamic and interactive learning environment, equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in science.

 

 

Budget Narrative

The total cost for the science kits is $778, which includes a comprehensive set of materials designed to meet the needs of students across grades 3 to 5 or 6. This investment will provide our students with high-quality, durable tools and resources that align with national science standards and offer multiple years of use.
