Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

My goal is to create an art classroom at Donahue Academy that equips students with the essential materials they need to learn one of the simplest yet most important of art skills: drawing. The Donahue Academy seeks to raise students up in the classical tradition of art, in which the learning of observational drawing is paramount. To this end, I plan to use this grant to restock drawing supplies for all the grades at Donahue. Elementary schoolers will benefit from having access to plentiful construction paper in a variety of sizes and colors, and middle school and high school students will benefit from working with high-quality drawing paper, pencils, and kneaded erasers designed for more serious projects. There is no substitute for good drawing practice, and with this grant I aim to prioritize all my students’ access to the necessary materials.

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

What will be done with my students

The students will engage with a variety of art materials and projects aimed at developing their creative and technical skills. In the classroom, younger students will create vibrant artworks using construction paper, while older students will undertake more sophisticated drawing challenges with their drawing paper, pencil kits, and erasers. Each project will be an opportunity for all students to cultivate virtues such as patience, diligence, and the pursuit of excellence in their artistic endeavors.

Benefits to my students

Students will benefit from having access to a wider range of quality art supplies that enable them to explore their creativity and complete projects without worrying about running out of materials. Beyond technical growth, these experiences will help students cultivate important life skills such as attention to detail, perseverance, and self-discipline. Students will also grow in their understanding and appreciation of the expensive, carefully crafted materials that go into every great drawing.
