Goal

The primary goal of the sensory room is to provide a safe, calming space where students can self-regulate and decompress after experiencing stress, anxiety, or overwhelming emotions. The room is designed to support emotional and sensory needs, helping students reset and refocus in a structured, supportive environment. By offering a range of sensory tools and activities, the sensory room aims to enhance students’ emotional well-being, improve behavior, and support their overall academic and social success. This space will serve as a proactive resource for students to manage their emotions in a healthy, constructive manner.

What will be done with my students

Students will be guided to use the sensory room when they need to calm down, refocus, or recover from a challenging situation. Trained staff will assist students in selecting appropriate activities based on their needs, whether it’s physical movement on sensory bikes or trampolines, tactile engagement with sensory mats and fidgets, or other calming exercises. Students will be encouraged to use the sensory room to help them regulate their emotions and sensory responses before returning to their classrooms. Activities will be tailored to help students regain focus, manage stress, and re-enter the learning environment feeling more balanced and ready to engage. 

 

Benefits to my students

The sensory room will offer several key benefits to students. It provides a safe, structured space for them to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges that might arise during the school day. By utilizing sensory tools like fidgets, mats, and trampolines, students can calm their nervous system, reduce tension, and improve their ability to focus. This room will help prevent emotional outbursts or disruptive behavior by offering an alternative space for students to decompress in a healthy, constructive way.

In addition, regular access to the sensory room can enhance students’ self-awareness and emotional regulation skills. They will learn to recognize when they are feeling overwhelmed and take proactive steps to regain their calm, fostering a sense of independence and responsibility. Over time, this can lead to improved academic performance, as students return to class more focused and prepared to learn. It also promotes a more inclusive school environment, where the emotional and sensory needs of all students are met, contributing to a positive school culture and greater overall well-being for the entire student body. 

 

Budget Narrative

I am going to need 973.01 dollars to create a complete sensory room for my students, some of the items included fidget mats, fidgets toys, trampolines, exercise equipment, and more.
